super stuff right there and very readable, informative, and entertaining. a nice christmas gift. merry christmas to you too in minnesota.
you mentioned early on about the Rangers pitching collapse in the world series.
i’m interested on your theory as to why?
especially in connection to nolan ryan as the model behind rangers sort of pitching revival.
thank you for all the links. alot to read now!
your article is actually kind of hopeful. i get the sense that we will get pitching mechanics right one of these days and there will be a reverse in the trend of complete games disappearing.
but maybe (and this is a question) nothing can replace the effectiveness of a reliever who comes in and throws as hard as he can for 2 innings? even with very proper mechanics, doesn’t a starter still have to treat a game like a marathon with pacing and all that? And if they do, then frequent use of relievers maybe makes a staff almost always more effective than a workhorse.

My opinion for the rangers was a pure case of low stamina.

I believe the lack of innings pitched by starters is really causing their stamina to decrease. To me a quality start should be at least 7 innings not 6. As soon as they show any kind of struggle, they get pulled. At some point, they need to keep going. There is no better bull pen then a real game. Most starters now are throwing the same amount of pitches as our little leaguers????

Then we rely more on the bullpen. Theres a reason those pitchers are in the bullpen, they have no stamina, mentally or physically. now we ask them to pitch on a daily basis. Whether its one inning or two. Those days start to compound the wear on these guys who ALREADY have a poor stamina record.

I could go on forever!! but I have to get to the store before they close…

Thanx for the nice words, thanx for coming, and I will be back later!!!

      Merry Xmas

I’m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
